DepEd: Blended learning here to stay

By Pearl Gumapos

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday (March 2) said that while face-to-face classes have started, blended learning, a mix of onsite and online methods, is here to stay.

“So the progressive face-to-face unblended learning has already started as early as February. And we are anticipating na lalong dadami ang mga schools na sasali. Pero hindi ibig sabihin na ngayong progressive face-to-face tayo ay iiwan na natin iyong konsepto ng blended learning,” DepEd Sec. Leonor Briones said during the Laging Handa public briefing.

“Kailangan pa rin ang online. Mayroon pa ring blended component. Talagang laganap na ang digital, laganap na ang technology, laganap na ang science and mathematics, kaya hahabol din tayo sa technology,” she said.

The department has started with its progressive expansion of limited face-to-face as early as February.

“Ngayon na tayo ay nasa Alert Level 1 na, lalo na ang NCR, inaasahan naming mas marami pang eskwelahan ang ating mabubuksan sa face-to-face. Iyong sa ating bilang ay 6,213 na schools ang ready kasi may mga criteria tayo,” Briones said.

“Out of these 6,213, mga 4,295 na ang nasa combination face-to-face at saka blended learning,” she added. -rir
