Israel donates water filtration units to Odette-affected areas in Mindanao

Some local government units (LGUs) in Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands have received NUF water filtration devices from the Israel government to be distributed to Odette-stricken areas in Mindanao.

The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) and the Embassy of Israel have donated the four unit filtration devices to the municipalities of Del Carmen and San Isidro in Siargao Island, and the cities of Cagdianao and Basilisa in Dinagat Islands.

According to MinDA Chief for Northeastern Mindanao Engr. Emel Lawansa, clean water supply is vital for victims of such disaster and that the Israeli government supported their decision in dedicating the technology to the most affected areas of the Super Typhoon Odette in 2021.

“So kami, nakita namin na, para doon talaga ‘yan sa mga affected ng typhoon, so nag-decide ang Israel na kami na lang ang mag-identify kung saan,” he said.

Lawansa added that the filtration units are manually operated but “can provide 400 liters per hour of clean and potable water.”

“Actually, ‘yung filtration na units na ‘yan, can service mga 300 to 400 families in one day so napakalaking tulong talaga niyan,” he said.

MinDA has partnered with the Israel Embassy as part of the initiatives of their water supply program and water conservation project. – Report from Marielle Rosales | Philippine Information Agency/VC-ag
