100% of public schools in Zamboanga City now holding in-person classes

By Myris Lee

All public schools in Zamboanga City are now holding face-to-face classes, the local Department of Education (DepED) office said Thursday (April 7).

In the Laging Handa briefing, Dr. Roy Tuballa, DepEd city schools division superintendent, said that 213 public schools and three private schools have started their limited in-person classes

Tuballa also reported that 58,171 public school students or 23 percent of them have attended the limited face-to-face classes.

“With the situation right now, I could say everything is in order following the joint guidelines issued by the Department of Education and the Department of Health with the rollout of school safety assessment tools, which is also the requirement of the local Inter Agency Task Force,” Tuballa said.

The education officer noted that no infections have been reported since the beginning of in-person classes in the city’s schools and assured that isolation protocols and guidelines are in place in case that happens.

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Managing of Emerging Infectious Diseases allowed in March 100 percent classroom capacity for face-to-face classes for higher education institutions in areas under Alert Level 1. -gb
