LPA continues to bring rain in parts of PH

by Alyssa Marie Luciano

A low pressure area (LPA), that is along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting Visayas and Mindanao, was seen outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and was last recorded at 350 km east northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur as of 3:00 a.m. Friday (April 8).

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the LPA and ITCZ are expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to the areas of Visayas, Mindanao, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, and Quezon, and may cause flash floods or landslides when moderate to heavy rains occur.

Cloudy skies with rain brought by the northeasterly surface windflow will be experienced in the provinces of Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mountain Province, and Aurora and may bring flash floods or landslides at times of moderate to heavy rains.

Although the Ilocos Region, Abra, and Benguet will have partly cloudy skies with minimal light rains caused by the northeasterly windflow, PAGASA noted that the said provinces will experience no significant impact.

Moreover, Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with minimal rain showers to thunderstorms, and may bring possible flash floods and landslides during severe thunderstorms. -ngs
