PNP spox: Not sure if Carlos’ term will get extended

By Myris Lee

Philippine National Police (PNP) Spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajaro said it is not yet sure if PNP Chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos’ term will be extended as he is expected to step down from his post on May 8, a day before the national and local elections.

In the May 3 Laging Handa public briefing, Fajardo said they are still waiting for President Rodrigo Duterte’s directives.

“Sa ngayon nag-aantay tayo kung magkakaroon ng change of leadership,” Fajardo added.

“Sinabi naman niya na siya ay susunod kung ano ang iutos ng presidente, pero nakahanda siya sa kanyang pagretiro.”

Fajardo assured Carlos’ retirement on May 8 will not affect the security preparations of the PNP for the polls since the security preparations were planned ahead.

“With concern sa mga nakalatag na seguridad, walang magiging problema when it comes to continuity ng mga inilatag natin na seguridad. Regardless kung ma-extend ang ating chief PNP or maglagay ng [officer-in-charge],” Fajardo said. -gb
