NWRB monitoring dam water levels as rainy season begins

By Myris Lee

The National Water Resources Board (NWRB) is closely monitoring Angat Dam and other dams following the declaration of the onset of rainy season in the country.

Dr. Sevillo David Jr., NRWB executive director, said La Niña can cause heavy rains that may result in spilling of dams.  The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on May 18 declared the start of the rainy season.

The official said operators are always on alert so they can immediately inform local government units regarding possible spilling that may cause flooding.

PAGASA said La Niña will likely persist until June to August 2022. – ag
