LPA to bring rain showers over most of PH

By Ma. Cristina Arayata | Philippine News Agency

Rains will dampen a huge part of the country due to the low pressure area (LPA) last seen 95 kilometers east of Maasin City, Southern Leyte, the weather bureau said Tuesday, May 31.

“It is nearing the landmass, but this LPA still has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone. It will bring rains over the Visayas and Mindanao,” said Aldczar Aurelio of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

He said cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail over Southern Leyte, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, and Bicol Region due to the LPA.

“The rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with high chances of rains in the afternoon or evening due to localized thunderstorms,” Aurelio added.

The temperature in Tuguegarao may reach up to 34 °C; up to 33 °C in Metro Manila and the Kalayaan Islands.

Scattered rains due to the LPA will also prevail over the Visayas and Caraga.

The rest of Mindanao will have fair weather, but rains are likely in the afternoon or evening, said Aurelio.

Zamboanga and Davao’s temperatures may reach up to 32 °C; up to 31 °C in Iloilo and Cebu; and up to 30 °C in Tacloban.

Meanwhile, light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will prevail over the entire archipelago. – gb
