Guevarra meets Remulla for DOJ transition talks

Current Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Menardo Guevarra had a meeting with incoming Justice Secretary and Cavite  congressman-elect Crispin “Boying” Remulla on Thursday, June 9.

The two officials had the chance to talk for several hours regarding the transition of programs and projects of the justice department.

Prior to their meeting, Guevarra suggested to Remulla to keep the good standing of the country on anti-human trafficking, to strenghten its campaign against cybercrimes, and the three-year joint program of the United Nations on Human Rights Promotion and Protection.

He also suggested the transfer of the New Bilibid Prison and the professionalization of the Bureau of Corrections, as well as the regionalization of the prison facilities, digitalization of the prison records, Immigration Modernization Vill, and to strengthen the relationship between law enforcement agencies and the judiciary.

Remulla said the meeting was “very informative” and that there is a possibility for another meeting with the outgoing team.

“Masalimuot talaga ang programa, sistema na kailangan nating isaayos at talagang nakakatuwa naman na pinaghandaan nilang bigyan kami ng impormasyon na nauukol sa suliranin na sumasambalot sa ating sistema ng hustisya,” he said.

He said he is aware of the challenges he will face as justice chief, noting that there are 11 attached agencies of the DOJ.

“Marami talaga eh. You know it’s a big work in progress na ating itutuloy at ating ilulunsad na improvements na puwedeng gawin,” he said.

Remulla previously said he is open for consultation meetings with Guevarra. –Report from Patrick de Jesus/KC-ag
