Mount Bulusan in Sorsogon had another phreatic eruption Sunday morning, June 12, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

Phivolcs said the eruption occurred at 3:37 in the morning and lasted 18 minutes.

“The public is reminded that Alert Level 1 status prevails over Bulusan Volcano, which means that it is currently in an abnormal condition,” the agency said.

“Local government units and the public are reminded that entry into the 4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) must be strictly prohibited and that vigilance in the 2-kilometer Extended Danger Zone (EDZ) on the southeast sector must be exercised due to the increased possibilities of sudden and hazardous phreatic eruptions,” it added.

Meanwhile, pilots are likewise discouraged to fly close to the volcano’s summit.

Phivolcs also reminded the residents residing near rivers and streams to be vigilant for any sudden flow of lahar due to the eruption. – gb
