PNP to enforce gun ban for Duterte, Marcos Jr. oath-taking

By Myris Lee

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will enforce a gun ban in Metro Manila and Davao City to ensure peace and order during the inauguration of President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Vice president-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio.

The operation will be implemented in Davao City from June 16 to 21 and in the National Capital Region (NCR) from June 27 to July 2.

Aside from criminal charges, violating the rule will lead to confiscation of firearms and cancellation of Permit to Carry Firearm Outside of Residence.

“This was already approved by our officer-in-charge, Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr., and the suspension covers the period of full preparations, deployment, and implementation of the security measures for the oath-taking events of the two highest-ranking officials of the country,” PNP Director for Operations MGen. Valeriano de Leon said.

At least 9,700 police officers will be deployed for the separate oath-taking events, 3,700 in Davao City and 6,000 in Metro Manila.

This does not include those who will be assigned at the border control and the forces from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine Coast Guard, and other allied forces in the country.

Duterte-Carpio will take her oath as the 15th Philippine vice president at San Pedro Square, Davao City on June 19, while Marcos Jr. will take his oath as the 17th Philippine president at the National Museum of the Philippines in Manila on June 30.  – ag
