Marcos Jr names Bello, Nograles as MECO, CSC heads

The camp of President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Jr. announced on Thursday, June 23, that outgoing officials Silvestre Bello III and Karlo Nograles were offered two posts under the incoming administration. 

Current Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre Bello III was appointed by Marcos to lead the Manila Economic and Cultural Office as chairperson and resident representative-elect.

Bello was appointed by outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte as the Secretary of DOLE in 2016.

He served and dedicated most of his life in public service including holding various posts in the government such as the acting secretary of justice and later on as the solicitor general in 1998 during the Ramos administration.

Meanwhile, Nograles was renominated by Marcos as the Civil Service Commission chairperson. 

On June 1, the Commission on Appointments bypassed the ad interim appointments of five officials picked by President Rodrigo Duterte which include Nograles.

Prior to President Rodrigo Duterte’s appointment to Nograles in several posts, he was Davao’s 1st District representative for eight years and a legislator by profession.

He also held other government posts, including serving as a cabinet secretary, Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases spokesperson, acting presidential spokesperson, and chairperson of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Zero Hunger.Marcos’ camp said Bello and Nograles will continue to work under the Marcos administration with “proven track records” that will help him in nation-building.   – ag
