LPA develops inside PAR; Habagat to bring rains over parts of PH

By Ma. Cristina Arayata | Philippine News Agency

A low pressure area (LPA) has developed inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility early Friday, July 8, the weather bureau said.

The LPA was last tracked 950 kilometers east of Davao City.

“It will remain as an LPA in the next 24 hours. However, its chance to develop into a tropical cyclone increases as it crosses the eastern section of the country,” Benison Estareja of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

It will be named “Ester” once it develops as the fifth tropical cyclone in the country.

The southwest monsoon or habagat will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Region 4-A (Calabarzon), Region 4-B (Mimaropa), Cagayan, Isabela, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, and the Zamboanga Peninsula.

Estareja said moderate to heavy rains may cause flash floods or landslides in those areas.

The rest of the country will have isolated rain showers.

Moderate seas and winds will prevail over the western section of southern Luzon and Western Visayas.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas. (PNA) – ag
