Group wants inventors’ commission made, believes P20/kilo of rice feasible

A group of inventors called on the Office of the President for the issuance of an executive order creating an inventors’ commission for Filipino innovations’ use in addressing issues faced by the country.

The group, led by Agriculture ASec. John Laña, said the establishment of the Philippine Inventors Commission will provide solutions to all the country’s problems, including the food security crisis through farming technologies of Filipino makers and scientists.

It also believes that the proposed P20 per kilogram price of rice is feasible.

“Pag pinagbigyan niyo po kami ng pagkakataon, ipi-present po namin ang siyensiya at best practices na itong P20 per kilo ng bigas na mungkahi niyo ay kayang-kayang abutin ng inyong administrasyon kahit P10 pa,” Laña said.

Among its suggestions are government investment in organic fertilizer manufacturers and the search for other natural gas sources to wean itself from imported crude oil dependence.

“Kung makapaggawa na tayo ng sarili nating fertilizer na organic, we will no longer be [buying] imported fertilizer. Kung hindi na tayo bumibili ng imported fertilizer, wala nang patong sa presyo ng bigas because ang ating ginamit na fertilizer ay sariling atin,” he said.

Laña said local organic fertilizer use may result in more rice production. With rice surplus increase, prices may even fall to as low as P10 per kilo.

The group has begun a feasibility study on the matter which has yet to secure a presentation opportunity to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for review and implementation.  – Report from Gillian Geronimo/AG – gb
