New cave discovered in Laguna

A new cave was discovered in the town of Sta. Maria, Laguna, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said.

In a Facebook post, DENR Calabarzon said the newly discovered Pinagdaop cave is still subject to the agency’s analysis for proper management, protection, and conservation of resources as well as the wildlife found inside and outside the cave.

According to DENR Calabarzon, the Pinagdaop cave is a type of cave in which its tunnels are created between rocks stacked on mountain slopes.

The cave, with an elevation of 514 meters above sea level, is located inside Presidential Proclamation 1636 in Barangay Cueva, Sta. Maria, Laguna.

It has the widest road inside at 4.39 meters, while the narrowest at 0.64 meters.

Pinagdaop cave is a Class I cave or caves with archaeological findings and are for scientific and educational purposes.

Class I caves can also be utilized for exploration, mapping, and photography. – ag
