1.3-M Filipinos under 4Ps no longer considered ‘poor’

By Katrina Gracia Consebido

Around 1.3 million individuals out of 4.4 million Filipino beneficiaries under the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) are being validated after being considered as not poor.

DSWD Secretary Erwin Tulfo made the report during the third Cabinet meeting with President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. on Tuesday, July 19.

Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said “this frees up P15B for other qualified persons to replace them and now be included in the 4Ps program.”

The 4Ps provides conditional cash grants to the poorest of the poor in a bid to improve children’s health, nutrition, and education.

The beneficiaries are selected through the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction.

Aside from cash grants, 4Ps also helps the national government to achieve its commitment to the Millennium Development Goals that helps suppress poverty and hunger, attain universal primary education, promote gender equality, reduce child mortality, and improve maternal health care. – ag
