MANILA – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has picked former Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) official Yogi Filemon Ruiz as acting commissioner of the Bureau of Customs (BOC).

Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles made the announcement in a press statement on Thursday, July 21,  a day after a document circulated at the BOC revealed that Ruiz would take over the position.

“President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. swore into office yesterday 20 July 2022, Yogi Filemon Ruiz as acting commissioner, Bureau of Customs,” Cruz-Angeles said.

Ruiz will replace Rey Leonardo Guerrero.

Prior to his new appointment, Ruiz served as chief of the BOC’s Enforcement and Security Services (ESS) in 2017.

As ESS chief, he was in charge of the customs police.

He previously served as regional director of the PDEA in Central Visayas.

The BOC, an attached agency of the Department of Finance, is charged with assessing and collecting customs revenues, curbing illicit trade and all forms of customs fraud, and facilitating trade through an efficient and effective customs management system. (PNA)
