PNP gears up for school opening

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is preparing security measures that will be implemented to ensure students’ safety with the opening of classes and the resumption of face-to-face learning.

PNP officer-in-charge LtGen. Vicente Danao Jr. said that they will use the “same template in the execution of security procedures to maintain a peaceful and friendly environment in schools.”

Danao added that minimum public health standards will strictly be implemented to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases that students may acquire.

“These areas of convergence are critical to our monitoring against criminal acts. We are also aware that the health protocol must still be observed just like the wearing of face masks to avoid the spread of the Coronavirus and other infectious diseases,” he added.

The police official is expecting coordination with other agencies, particularly the Department of Education, to iron out the plans for ordinary school days and for emergency situations.

“Integral to this is the identification of critical areas noted for crime incidence and those with high COVID-19 cases. Consequently, more personnel will be deployed in these areas,” he continued.

The PNP said it is expecting more people in schools and in other public places, but assured the full implementation of security protocols. – ag
