Magnitude 4.0 quake hits Ilocos Sur

A magnitude 4.0 earthquake hit Ilocos Sur Saturday noon, July 30, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The tectonic quake hit 2 kilometers (km) northeast of Magsingal, Ilocos Sur at 12:34 p.m.

It had a depth of focus of 7 km.

Intensity IV was felt in Sinait, Ilocos Sur, while Intensity III was felt in Bangued, Abra and Pinili and Batac in Ilocos Norte.

Meanwhile, Instrumental Intensity III was also felt in Vigan City and Sinait Ilocos Sur; Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; Instrumental Intensity II was felt in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte.

The tremor was an aftershock of the 7.0-magnitude temblor that rocked Northern Luzon on July 27.

Damages and aftershocks are not expected.
