BSP, PNP nab fake dollar bills seller

By Katrina Gracia Consebido

A 47 year-old Cameroonian national was arrested by Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel last July for selling counterfeit US dollar banknotes.

Makati-resident Fonki Gregory Abueh was arrested in an entrapment operation in Taguig by the Quezon City Police Anti-Cybercrime Team and the BSP’s Payments and Currency Investigation Group (PCIG).

Fourteen pieces of fake 100-dollar bills were seized from the suspect.

Abueh was charged with illegal possession and use of false treasury or banknotes and other instruments of credit under the Revised Penal Code.

He will also face separate charges of swindling or estafa under Republic Act No. 10175 or Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

The BSP has reminded the public to be vigilant against fake currencies and urged them to report counterfeiting information to pcig@bsp.gov.ph or to 02 8988-4833 and 02 8926-5092. -ag
