P3-M worth of smuggled cigarettes seized

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) confiscated on Tuesday, Aug. 23, a total of P3 million worth of smuggled cigarettes in Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay.

An anti-smuggling operation was held in Barangay Baluran after a tip was received by the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 9 and the Tungawan Municipal Station that a truck was carrying illegal goods.

The said truck was loaded with 85 cases of the contraband carrying various brands.

Port District Collector Segundo Sigmeundfreud Barte Jr. said that the operation was part of the port’s commitment in preventing illegal shipments entering the country.

The violators will be charged for violating Republic Act 10863 also known as Customs Modernization and Tariff Act of 2016, and the Tobacco Exportation and Importation Rules and Regulations.
