The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) on Thursday, Aug. 25, announced that it will open its emergency loan program to aid its members and pensioners that were hit by Severe Tropical Storm Florita.

Members with current emergency loan balance can borrow up to P40,000 to settle their previous emergency loan balance and can still receive P20,000.

Those without outstanding emergency loans and pensioners can apply for a P20,000 loan.

Aside from emergency loans, GSIS members can also avail the Multi-purpose Loan (MPL) according to GSIS president and general manager Wick Veloso.

“Aside from emergency loans, our members may avail of the Multi-purpose Loan (MPL) Plus, which has a loan ceiling of up to P5 million,” GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso said.’

“Pensioners on the other hand, may borrow up to six months’ worth of their pension under our enhanced Pension Loan program or up to P500,000,” he added.

Active members may apply for the loan if they came from the affected areas that have been declared under the state of calamity, as well as old-age and those with disability.

Veloso said GSIS will also provide financial aid of P400,000 each to six schools in North Luzon under the Adopt-a-School Program in partnership with the Department of Education.

“This is out of the 25 schools that GSIS will adopt nationwide this year as part of its corporate social responsibility program. Since 2014, GSIS has already adopted 85 schools across the country,” he said. –ag
