A group of taxi drivers will appeal to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) for an increase in the decided flagdown rate for taxis.
The Philippine National Taxi Operators Association (PNTOA) said it will file a motion for reconsideration to the LTFRB to request the taxi flagdown rate to be raised to P60.00
Based on the announced approved fare increase by the LTFRB, the current flagdown rate of P40.00 was only adjusted to P45.00.
The group said the fare adjustment is too small to keep up with the soaring prices of gasoline.
“Ang idinagdag sa flagdown rate ay P5.00. At an average of 20 passengers a day na nakukuha ng taxi driver translates to only P100.00,” PNTOA President Atty. Bong Suntay said.
The effectivity of the approved fare hike for taxis, buses, and jeepneys will be implemented on Oct. 3. —Report from Cecille Villarosa/KC-ag
