Phivolcs: No tsunami threat following magnitude 7.0 quake in Mexico

No tsunami threat was recorded in the Philippines following the magnitude 7.0 quake that hit Michoacan, Mexico Thursday afternoon, Sept. 22, state volcanologists said.

In an advisory, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said no destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data.

The tremor struck northwest of Michoacan, Mexico at 2:16 p.m. It had a depth of 61 kilometers.

One was reported dead after the quake. — ag
