Tropical Storm Luis which intensified into a Severe Tropical Storm at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, has exited the Philippine area of responsibility at around 9:00 a.m., the country’s weather bureau said.

In its 11:00 a.m. tropical cyclone bulletin, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Luis may still intensify into a typhoon within the next 24 hours as it moves over the sea east of Ryukyu Islands.

PAGASA said the severe tropical storm is unlikely to directly affect the country’s weather conditions and is unlikely to bring rough seas over the country’s coastal waters.

As of 10:00 a.m., Luis was located at 1,130 kilometers (km) east northeast of extreme Northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 100 km/h and gustiness of up to 125 km/h.

Meanwhile, the low pressure area seen east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression, but may bring rains over several portions of Visayas and Mindanao.

“Dito naman sa kanlurang parte ng Southern Luzon, mayroon pa ring bahagyang epekto bagama’t humihina na ang habagat o southwest monsoon,” PAGASA weather forecaster Benison Estareja said.
