President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday, Oct. 3, spearheaded the groundbreaking ceremony of Ortigas and Shaw Boulevard stations and tunnels in Pasig City.

In his speech, Marcos Jr. said that the project will “benefit approximately 150,000 passengers a day by the year 2028.”

“The CP104 is part of the 33-kilometer Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) Phase 1, the first subway project in the Philippines,” Marcos Jr. said.

Once the first subway project is finished, it can reduce the travel time between Quezon City and the Manila airport from an hour and 30 minutes to 35 minutes.

The subway project is a joint venture of Megawide Construction Corporation, Tokyu Construction Co., Ltd, and Tobishima Corporation.

Marcos Jr. cited that commuters will have a huge benefit in using the subway stations, as well as business opportunities for entrepreneurs and investors.

“With accessible designated stations that can cater a massive volume of passengers, we anticipate helping our people skip the long lines of traffic and even spare themselves from the perils of commuting,” he added.

“With the improved linkages of key areas and business districts in the metro as well as the availability of stalls and other stores in the stations and nearby markets, we can see more business opportunities for entrepreneurs and investors, and additional economic activity,” he continued.

He assured the public that his administration will “take the lead in identifying, pursuing, and implementing projects as part of the Build Better More infrastructure agenda that we have laid out.”
