Inflation accelerates to 6.9% in September

By Gabriela Baron

Inflation accelerated in September as prices in food and non-alcoholic beverages such as sugar, fish, and vegetables, and crops rose, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported.

Inflation quickened at 6.9%, higher than August’s 6.3%.

“This is the highest recorded inflation since October 2018,” PSA noted.

“With this month’s inflation, the Philippines’ average inflation rate from January to September 2022 stood at 5.1 percent,” the agency added.

PSA also attributed the uptick in increase in clothing and footwear; household equipment, and personal care prices. –ag
