In a statement, Abalos condemned the killing of Mabasa who was shot dead in Las Piñas City on the night of Oct. 3, saying that the government will not “turn a blind eye to the heinous act.”

“Under the swift response of the Philippine National Police (PNP), an in-depth investigation of the said atrocious crime has already moved forward through a Special Investigation Task Force established by the PNP-Las Piñas City hours after the unfortunate incident,” he said.

“The DILG and PNP commit to deliver justice to the family of [Mabasa] and bring the suspects behind bars to answer for their crime,” he added.

He also reiterated that the DILG will continue to protect Filipinos, including media practitioners “who have been partners of the government in information dissemination and most importantly, in serving as watchdogs for the benefit of the public.”
