Lawmakers hailed President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s performance in his first 100 days as the chief executive of the country.
House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Representative Martin Romualdez said there are many “great things” Marcos has done in the government.
“I think the President has done great things in the government, particularly in his Cabinet, and his policies are very clear,” Romualdez said.
He also commended what Marcos did in building ties internationally to boost the economy.
“He has also done a wonderful job in engaging our friends in the international community whereby foreign direct investments would be coming,” he added.
Camarines Sur Representative LRay Villafuerte also lauded Marcos’ focus on encouraging investors in the Philippines to revive the country from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Given the government’s limited fiscal space, the President was correct in anchoring our country’s rebound from COVID-19 on generating more capital from both foreign and local investors,” Villafuerte said.
Former President and Senior Deputy Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo also praised Marcos’ formation of this economic team to ensure the country’s economic rise in the face of the continuing pandemic and tension in Ukraine and Taiwan.
“In President Marcos Jr.’s case, in the wake of the pandemic and global tensions in Ukraine and Taiwan, the adverse economic impact of these crises is topmost on most minds. President Marcos Jr. reassured everyone by assembling an impressive economic team that has been universally praised,” Arroyo said.
“During his first 100 days, the President- aside from assembling a powerhouse team of economic managers- has personally taken the role of “traveling salesman” in attracting investments from other countries. He isa also personally addressing the nation’s concerns on food and agriculture as concurrent Secretary of the Department of Agriculture,” Senator Robin Padilla added.
Padilla also hopes that Marcos can continue the good start until the end of his term in 2028.
“The first 100 days is a good start that I hope will be sustained in the President’s next 2,092 days in his term – from October 8, 2022 to June 30, 2028 – to address the other problems our nation faces. And this is where our help will matter. We must unite to support what is right and correct what is wrong, because the President’s victory is a win for our Motherland – and most importantly, a win for all Filipinos,” he added.
Meanwhile, Senator Sonny Angara believes that one of the highlights of Marcos’ first 100 days was his trip to Indonesia, Singapore, and the United States.
“PInakita niya sa mundo na bukas ulit ang Pilipinas para sa negosyo, para sa investment at yun sa palagay ko sa mga darating na buwan ay magiging benepisyaryo ‘yung ating bansa at ‘yung ating mga kababayan na walang trabaho, lalakas ulit ‘yung mga industriya satin at magha-hire ulit ng mga trabahador,” Angara said. –Report from Mark Fetalco/KC-gb
