About nine out of every 10 Filipinos said they consider fake news a problem in the Philippines, a new survey conducted by Pulse Asia revealed.
The research also found that 90% of Filipinos “have read, heard, and/or watched fake political news.”
Meanwhile, respondents said social media and television are the leading sources of fake news about government and politics.
At least 58% of Filipinos said social media influencers, bloggers, and vloggers are responsible for spreading fake political news in the country.
However, about 44% said they are certain that the political news they are reading is not false or untrue. On the other hand, another 44% of respondents are unable to say if they are sure or unsure that the political news they are consuming is not.
The survey was conducted from Sept. 17 to 21 using face-to-face interviews based on a sample of 1,200 adult respondents aged 18 years old and above. –ag
