Poe: Death of Lapid case middleman a ‘tragic blow’ to justice system

By Katrina Gracia Consebido

Senator Grace Poe on Tuesday, October 25, said the death of the middleman in the killing of veteran broadcaster Percy Lapid “strikes a tragic blow” to the Philippine justice system.

In a statement, the senator said the middleman’s death meant losing a “vial link” in resolving the case.

“It’s a shame that the family and friends of the victim will deal with a drawn-out investigation. This death will further hinder due process,” she said.

“The Bureau of Corrections owes it to the victim’s loved ones to quickly investigate this new murder and find new evidence that can point us to the mastermind of the series of crimes that has been committed,” she added.

Poe said the unresolved murder cases will add to the “grim statistics on media killings and further embolden wrongdoers.”

She, however, hopes that answers will soon come out and that justice will prevail.

“We will continue watching and holding authorities accountable for the sake of public order and safety,” the chairperson of the Committee on Public Services said. –ag
