PBBM assures gov’t ready to assist farmers in ‘Paeng’-hit areas

By Gabriela Baron

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. assured on Monday, Oct. 31, that the government is ready to provide support to farmers affected by Severe Tropical Storm “Paeng.”

In a media interview during his visit to San Jose Evacuation Center in Barangay San Jose II in Noveleta, Cavite, the Chief Executive said damage assessment is still ongoing.

He noted that the farmers have just planted their crops before the typhoon hit and it is highly likely they will repent.

“So we have to see kung ano pang puwedeng buhayin, ano ‘yung talagang hindi na kakayanin and we will have to provide — magpo-provide na naman kami ng inputs para sa agri section,” he added.

“But it is the built-up areas na nagkaproblema talaga dito, more than the agriculture. Of course, agriculture is still — always very important.”

The initial damage to agriculture is pegged at P260 million.
