DOE assures no electricity supply issue amid yellow alert status of Luzon grid

By Gabriela Baron

The Department of Energy (DOE) on Monday, Nov. 28, assured the public there is no electricity supply issue amid the issuance of yellow alert status of the Luzon grid.

Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla said there are no fuel supply constraints after some power generating plants went on forced outages.

“We assure the public that there appears to be no fuel constraints. Some of these generating plants are on forced outage caused by power plant tripping,” Lotilla said.

The National Grid Corporation (NGCP) placed the Luzon grid under yellow alert from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

A yellow alert indicates low electricity supply.

The Luzon grid was earlier placed under red alert following the forced outages of six power plants.

Lotilla said they also expect that the Energy Regulatory Commission will look into the root of the outages to prevent similar occurrences.

The Energy secretary also urged the public to exercise energy efficiency through judicious use of electricity.
