30% of Pinoys say their lives got better in the last 12 months – survey

By Alec Go

Thirty percent of adult Filipinos said their quality of life was better than 12 months before, the Third Quarter 2022 Social Weather Survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) found.

The survey was conducted from Sept. 29 to Oct. 2 and is the first since President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. assumed post on June 30.

It showed that 29% of Filipinos believe their lives got worse than 12 months before and 41% said their life quality did not change.

The net “gainer” score is zero, which is computed based on the percentage of those who believe their lives improved minus the percentage of those who did not.

“The October 2022 Net Gainer score is slightly up from the fair -2 in June and April 2022. However, it is still 18 points below the pre-pandemic level of very high +18 in December 2019,” the SWS said.

“The Net Gainer score was generally negative until 2015 when it rose to positive numbers until the drastic deterioration beginning with the Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns. It has since trended back upwards but still has not reached the positive range,” it added.

The 2-point improvement in the net gainer score is attributed to the 4-point rise in the Visayas, 3-point rise in Metro Manila and Balance Luzon, and the 4-point decrease in Mindanao.

The survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews of 1,500 respondents or 300 each in Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao, and 600 in the rest of Luzon.
