PCG gears up for holiday season

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Monday, Dec. 5, that it will deploy 25,000 personnel to ensure the safety of the public traveling during the holiday season.

“Ang ating mga tauhan ng Coast Guard nationwide, we’ll put them on alert status, heightened alert and we’ll be reminding shipowners to ensure the sea worthiness of their vessels,” PCG Commandant Admiral Artemio Abu said.

Abu also reminded the public to plan their travels carefully to avoid inconvenience.

“Tsaka pinapaalalahanan natin ‘yung ating mga kababayan na magta-travel na planuhin nila nang maayos ‘yung kanilang pagbiyahe para maging safe, convenient, and secure ‘yung pagbyahe nila, nandyan ‘yung Philippine Coast Guard to help them, he added.

Most of the passengers have decided to travel early to avoid the exodus of travelers this coming Christmas, according to Abu.

Meanwhile, Abu also reminded fishermen and ship crews to comply with sea travel regulations to ensure the riding public’s comfort, safety, and convenience. —With report from Joshua Garcia/KC – gb
