The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has allowed persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) to vote in Saturday’s plebiscite for the cityhood of Baliwag town in Bulacan province.

Comelec Resolution No. 10873 released on Monday said inmates and detainees in the area who are registered voters may cast their votes.

“PDL voters, whose registration records have not been transferred, deactivated, canceled, or deleted, shall be covered by this Resolution. Only PDL voters, whose names appear in the voters list for PDLs for Baliwag, Bulacan, may vote in the PDL-SPP (Special Polling Place),” it said.

The PDL-SPP shall be established at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Pagala, Baliwag, Bulacan.

Voting hours will be from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The period is an hour earlier than the end of the voting hours for regular voters at 3 p.m., to ensure that there will be enough time to bring the PDL ballots back to the voting centers, where they will be collected.

On the other hand, individuals included in the voters list for PDLs but were released before the plebiscite day are going to be allowed to vote in the regular polling place in the precinct where they are registered.

Republic Act 11929 or the measure converting the municipality of Baliwag in the province of Bulacan into a component city lapsed into law on July 29. (PNA)
