OPS renamed to Presidential Communications Office

By Gabriela Baron

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, renamed the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) to Presidential Communications Office (PCO).

Under Executive Order (EO) No. 11 signed on Dec. 29, 2022, the PCO will be responsible for crafting, formulating, developing, enhancing, and coordinating the messaging system of the Executive branch and the Office of the President.

The PCO is among the five agencies that will be directly supervised by the President, alongside the Executive Office, Office of the Chief Presidential Legal Counsel, Private Office, Office of the Special Assistant to the President, and the PCO.

The Executive Office will also directly supervise the Presidential Management Staff.

Marcos reorganized the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) last July and renamed it as the OPS.

He, however, has yet to appoint a Press Secretary since Trixie Cruz-Angeles resigned last October.

Undersecretary Atty. Cheloy Garafil has served as officer-in-charge of OPS since then. -ag
