A 115 year-old Spanish-American woman was recognized as the oldest person alive by the Guinness World Records.

Maria Branyas Morera became the official oldest living person after the death of Lucille Randon, 118, from France.

Morera was born on March 4, 1907 in San Jose, California and moved to Catalonia, Spain with her family when she was eight years old.

She had survived World War 1, World War 2, Spanish Civil War, and the Spanish Flu pandemic, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Morera also caught COVID-19, however she survived and recovered from it.

She is currently staying at the Residència Santa Maria del Tura, a nursing home where she has resided for the past 22 years.

According to the nursing home, Morera has remained “in good health and continues to be surprised and grateful for the attention that this anniversary has generated.”

In a Twitter post, Morera said she is living a long life due to “order, tranquility, good connection with family and friends, contact with nature, emotional stability, no worries, no regrets, lots of positivity, and staying away from toxic people.”

“I think longevity is also about being lucky and good genetics,” Morera said. -gb
