Death toll from heavy rains, floods up to 44

The death toll from heavy rains and flooding caused by a shear line has risen to 44, said the National Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) on Wednesday, Feb. 1.

In its latest situational report, 14 were confirmed dead in Region 5, 12 in Region 9, 8 in Region 10, seven in Region 8, and one each in Regions 11, 12 and Mimaropa.

A total of 11 persons sustained injuries while eight were reported missing.

Around 497,777 families were affected, equivalent to 2,047,222 individuals.

The damage to agriculture and infrastructure was estimated to be P1.085 billion and P521 million, respectively, with 1,888 damaged houses. –ag
