Japan opens graduate scholarship for Filipino students

The Ajinomoto Foundation Postgraduate Grants is offering a full scholarship in Japan for qualified Filipino students.

The universities included in the 2024 scholarship program are University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, Nagoya University, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Ochanomizu University, Waseda University, and Kagawa Nutrition University.

Aspiring applicants must have graduated or be expected to graduate with an excellent academic record and must receive the recommendation of their University President or Academic Advisor.

Candidates must also be under the age of 35 years old on April 1; must file an application and attend selection procedures in the Philippines; must be in good physical and mental health; and must be within top 5% of the class or with grade point average (GPA) of 3.7 or higher.

They must also not be receiving other scholarships and must show financial need to pursue higher education.

Among the scholarship benefits include a ¥150,000 (or approximately P61,990) monthly allowance for a maximum of one year as a research student or a ¥180,000 (or approximately 74,388) monthly allowance for a maximum of two years as a master’s course student.

The scholarship grant will also fully cover examination, admission, and tuition fees, as well as the costs of medical exam, psychological exam, Japanese language training, and airfare to Japan.

The deadline for applications for the grant is on March 1.
