Turon, Maruya among world’s best deep-fried desserts

Filipino desserts turon and maruya were included in the list of the world’s best deep-fried desserts by food and lifestyle magazine TasteAtlas.

Turon was at the 21st spot with a score of 4.10 out of a 5-star rating, while Maruya earned the 36th spot with a score of 3.90.

Turon is typically made out of saba plantains and jackfruit, rolled in brown sugar, and wrapped in spring roll wrappers.

Maruya is a type of banana fritter that consists of sliced or mashed bananas mixed in battered flour and dusted with sugar after frying.

Pisang goreng of Indonesia topped the list, followed by quarkbällchen (quark balls) of Germany, and pastelitos criollos of Argentina. -ag
