4 killed, Lanao del Sur guv hurt in ambush

Four individuals were killed while Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Alonto Adiong Jr. was hurt in an ambush in Maguing, Lanao del Sur on Friday, Feb. 17.

According to Bangsamoro Region Police Director BGen. John Guyguyon, among the fatalities were three police personnel who were serving as security aides of Adiong. 

In a Facebook post, Lanao del Sur 1st District Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong said the government is now “in stable condition” and that “he’s out of danger.”

“Our unending gratitude to everyone who has offered their prayers and support to Gov. Bombit and our family during this difficult time,” Adiong said.

“We are heartbroken over the deaths of his security details, all of whom are family members and relatives who were in convoy with my brother during the violent attack. We offer our deepest sympathies to all of our bereaved loved ones,” he continued.

The official called on authorities to “act with urgency and utilize all legal means available to pursue and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

“This condemnable act must not be taken lightly. May peace prevail in our beloved Lanao del Sur,” he said. –With reports from Rod Lagusad and Alec Go-gb
