DOST offers foreign graduate scholarship for molecular biomedicine

By Janine Dumaguin

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is looking for qualified applicants who desire to pursue a doctorate degree in molecular biomedicine under the 2023 foreign graduate scholarship program.

In an announcement, the DOST said the three-year program “integrates basic research and clinics focusing on the study of molecular approaches to cancer biology, genetics, jaundice, and metabolic diseases.”

This is a partnership between the DOST–Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD), the University of Trieste (UNITS), and Fondazione Italiana Fegato (FIF).

“Two positions for the PhD program will be available each year at UNITS-FIF” the announcement read, adding that this is still subject fund availability.

The DOST said applicants’ research interests must be aligned with the National Unified Health Research Agenda and Harmonized National Research and Development Agenda.

Applicants must submit the requirements to DOST-PCHRD until April 28. The requirements and procedures can be viewed here.

The selection procedure includes scholarship application, document screening, technical interview, and final selection.

The scholarship covers tuition, living and book allowance, outright dissertation grant, travel/health and accident insurance, one-time round-trip economy fare from residence to Italy, and pre-departure expenses.

The program will start this November. –ag
