Maguindanao town mayor hurt in Pasay ambush

Datu Montawal, Maguindanao del Sur Mayor Ohto Montawal was hurt in an ambush in Pasay Wednesday night, Feb. 22.

Based on reports, Montawal was attacked along Roxas Boulevard in Barangay 4, Pasay at around 6:30 p.m.

He was hit in the hip and left arm and was immediately brought to a nearby hospital.

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr. said authorities are now investigating the ambush.

Abalos said the Philippine National Station Special Investigation Team is focused on hunting down the suspects responsible for the ambush and to find out the possible motive.

“Ilang testigo na ang lumutang upang ilahad ang kanilang nasaksihan. Asahan po ninyong hindi titigil ang PNP hanggang hindi nasusukol ang mga suspek,” Abalos said.

“Inatasan ko rin ang PNP na mahigpit na bantayan at dagdagan ang seguridad para kay Mayor upang siguruhin ang kanyang kaligtasan mula sa anumang pagtatangka sa kanyang buhay,” he added.

He vowed that the PNP is “doing everything to identify and arrest the suspects” and bring an end to the case. -ag
