P500-K reward offered to informants on slain student case

By Alec Go

The Office of the House Speaker announced Wednesday, March 1, that it is offering a P500,000 reward to informants who can help in the arrest of those involved in the killing of student John Matthew Salilig due to alleged fraternity hazing.

House Speaker Martin Romualdez said the reward is to encourage individuals who have information on the case to work with authorities.

“Brothers do not kill brothers… Frat-related or not, any crime that results to death deserves utmost condemnation,” he said.

“It is important that we take a proactive step to help our law enforcement agencies bring criminals to justice. Wala silang pagpapahalaga sa buhay. Sa ospital nila dapat dinala ang biktima,” he added.

Authorities confirmed the death of the Adamson student on Tuesday.

His body was found in a field in Imus, Cavite, days after his reported disappearance.

A search warrant has been served by the Biñan Police at the house of one of the persons of interest.

Police personnel have already seized the vehicle allegedly involved in the case. However, the wooden paddle used in the initiation rites was not found.

A forensic examination will be conducted on the vehicle.

The case currently has 17 persons of interest, including seven that are now in the custody of the police. – With reports from Kenneth Paciente and Mela Lesmoras-gb
