‘Babayi, Bayani’ exhibit showcased to welcome Women’s Month

By Gabriela Baron

To join the country in celebrating the National Women’s Month, a female-led art exhibit will honor “women as day-to-day heroes.”

The exhibit is a series of small works that convey women empowerment and love for the country, according to its organizer Bloom.

“One of the ways we empower women who serve the country through their different roles is through self-expression and supporting fellow women,” Bloom said.

“Whether the works portray women making use of their personal agency to achieve their aspirations and realize their vision without the need of permission, voicing out social justice concerns, or highlighting the nurturing instinct of women,” it added.

Bloom said women artists participating in the exhibit “refuse to allow women to be written off by history where women are traditionally pushed to the sidelines.”

On International Women’s Day, March 8, the artists will host a film screening of “Memories of a Forgotten War” by Sari Dalena and Camilla Griggers.

A portion of the artworks will also be auctioned and the proceeds will be donated to the families of drug war victims.

Among the artists participating are author Beverly Siy, Aba Lluch Dalena, Daphne Aguilar, Sinag de Leon, Tinsley Garanchon, Sigwada Knicolai, Yllang Montenegro, Angela Belljar, Vivian Nocum Limpin, Shanti Isla, Phoebe Beltran-Almazan, Heidi Bailon Sarno, Lissa Romero de Guia, Pia Lappay Dacanay, and Ninj Reyes Abay.

Also joining are Ireland Jill, Lina Zacher, Scarlet Aguilar, Glenda Abad, Alexandra Monserrat, Jessica Casaljay, Anetchka, Lisa Ito, Daniela Prieto, Christine Carlos, Marites M. Falcon, Kaye O’Yek, Mitch Garcia, Kwin Chi, Jeska Barayuga, Haidee Pineda, and Pinky Peralda.

Together with Bea Mariano, Angel Romero, Nicole Lasquety, Noelle Varela, Francine Lima, Gege Cruz Sugue, Maya Santos, Agustina Basco, Bashare Hamide Kerdad, Kiri Dalena, Julie Lluch, and Ava Chato.

The “Babayi, Bayani” exhibit is located at Cubao Expo in Quezon City and will run until March 31. -ag
