The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) urged on Sunday, March 5, all air passengers to allot ample time from the usual three hours before flight departure time to be at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) amid the week-long transport strike.

The week-long transport strike, which is expected to begin Monday, March 6, will be joined by jeepney and utility vehicle (UV) express drivers and operators as they express opposition to the impending public UV modernization program.

MIAA General Manager Cesar Chiong said local airline companies and airline service providers prepared contingency measures to ensure minimal to no work interruption in their operations.

Chiong also directed the deployment of MIAA shuttle buses to and from Dasmariñas Cavite for MIAA employees living in various parts of Cavite.

While employees who live in nearby cities like Makati, Quezon City, and Manila, and those who reside in Bulacan and Laguna areas are encouraged to consider staying in the office where temporary sleeping quarters will be made available for them.

“We are working closely with our stakeholders to mitigate the effect of the strike to NAIA operations. We are continuously monitoring the situation,” Chiong added.

Chiong also urged passengers to monitor news reports about transport situations in their areas and check the status of their flight before going to NAIA to avoid inconvenience.

The transport strike is expected to end on Sunday, March 12. – cf
