PH to send $200,000 financial donation to quake-hit Syria

The Philippine government, through the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), is sending a financial donation of USD 200,000, along with in-kind relief assistance to the Syrian Arab Republic, following a 7.8-magnitude earthquake that hit Türkiye on February 6.

“The Philippines, as a member of the international community of nations, steadfastly supports the united global effort to assist the victims of the February 6 earthquake in Türkiye and Syria,” the DFA announced on Friday, March 10.

In a release, the Presidential Communications Office said President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered the sending of assistance, as well as coordinating with relevant Philippine government agencies to implement the humanitarian commitments to the Syrian government.

The Philippine government had previously sent an 82-man Philippine Inter-Agency Humanitarian Contingent (PIAHC) in Türkiye, which served 1,022 patients and assisted in search and rescue operations in collapsed buildings.

Meanwhile, the second batch of repatriated overseas Filipinos who were affected by the earthquake arrived in the country on March 8. – cf
