The Philippines’ coconut liquor lambanog made it to the list of the Taste Atlas’ “50 Best Rated Spirits in the World.”

The classic lambanog scored 4.3 out of five stars and landed in the 10th spot of the travel and lifestyle website.

Taste Atlas took note of this “potent Filipino drink” which is made from the fermented sap of the coconut palm and has now modern varieties that are “often tinted, sweetened, and flavored.”

“It is a clear, colorless spirit that is quite strong, with the usual alcohol content at around 40% ABV,” Taste Atlas said.

According to the website, the lambanog which originated and produced in the Province of Quezon is “traditionally enjoyed neat”.

Meanwhile, Scotch from the Scottish island of Islay was hailed as the world’s best spirit, taking the top rank with a 4.5 rating, only 0.1 in front of Mexican Reposado Tequila, Scotch from the Scottish Highlands, and Serbian Viljamovka.
