DICT: SIM registration now until July 25

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), together with its attached agencies, held a discussion with public telecommunication entities (PTE) regarding the latest development and issues on the implementation of the SIM Registration Act.

The DICT and PTEs laid down plans on how to resolve the difficulty of getting government-issued identification cards to proceed with the registration.

In addition, the agency also thanked the continuous efforts and support in eliminating the criminality through SIM use. The extension was also discussed during the meeting.

According to the SIM Registration Act’s Implementing Rules and Regulations, an extension may be imposed for up to 120 days.

As of April 25, Department of Justice Secretary Boying Remulla has confirmed the 90 days extension for SIM Registration.

The SIM Registration will now continue until July 25, 2023. – gb
