LRT-2 implements provisional service due to fire near Recto station

By Christine Fabro

The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) on Sunday, May 14, announced that it implemented limited operations due to a fire incident adjacent to the LRT-2 Recto Station.

“A fire broke out in a residential area in Oroquieta, Sta. Cruz, Manila, which affected the LRT-2 power supply and signaling systems at Recto Station,” it said in an advisory.

“LRT-2 implemented limited train operations from Antipolo to V. Mapa and vice versa from 5:00 am until 10:56 am to ensure the safety of the riding public,” it added.

LRTA noted that beginning at 10:57 a.m. on Sunday, train operations were extended from Antipolo Station to Legarda Station and vice-versa.

“The LRT2 Team is conducting clearing operations and thoroughly assessing the affected area. Once the inspection is completed and safety clearance is issued, LRT2 will resume full-line operations,” LRTA stressed.

The elevated connecting bridge, which serves as a link/transfer of passengers from LRT-2 Recto Station to LRT-1 Doroteo Jose Station, is currently impassable due to damages. — gb
